As we finish up our 10th Anniversary Year, we would like to thank you for your continuing support. As I looked back over our goals for 2006, I realized that we actually completed them…..new sign, new driveway, relocate the quilting machine! Say it fast and it doesn’t seem like much, however, each project was enormously time-consuming….but well worth all the effort! What’s in store for 2007? Well, we have two new grandbabies on the way so whatever we decide to do we will be arranging our plans and schedule to coincide with their births. Erin & Shawn are expecting their 2nd son, Parker Daniel Smith, on February 5th. Vanessa & Lucas just recently found out that they are pregnant and are expecting their baby in June. (By the way, I can now officially call Lucas my son-in-law as they were quietly married on October 14th)

The 3rd Annual Mountain Holly Days in Rangeley and Oquossoc Villages will be held on Saturday, December 9th and Sunday, December 10th. Holiday Hours

TGQS will be CLOSED November 23, December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. We will be closing at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 25 and Saturday, December 23. Our regular hours remain the same throughout the winter months – Tuesday thru Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.

We just finished our Fall 2006 Quilt Camps with Deb Tucker. Weekends at the Country Club Inn and mid-week classes at Quilt Inn Rangeley Retreat Center were informative, fun and inspiring. The weather in Rangeley in October is always unpredictable, this year being no exception. A beautiful, sunny fall day greeted the first weekend campers on the 13th; the second weekend was a mixture of rain/wind/snow and the loss of a HUGE tree directly in front of our quilting room. Thankfully, the tree fell away from the building or we would have had some very unhappy campers!! The third weekend campers arrived in sunny, cool weather with a gorgeous view of a snow capped Saddleback Mountain. The following day brought more snow…..a perfect quilting day!! Pictures of all three Quilt Camp Weekends can be seen at http://www.picturetrail.com/threadsgalore

Fall Quilt Camps 2007 are scheduled for October 12 – 28. Deb and I are working on getting all info available by mid-February.

Not sure if Quilt Camp or classes are for you? Take a moment to read what my good friend Martha has to say…

                     By Martha Bicknell

Quilt classes offer a wonderful opportunity to gather with fellow quilters, from my hometown and around the country, for a day or evening of creative exploration. I always pick up wonderful ideas and inspiration as we each brainstorm and offer problem-solving suggestions when one of us hits a construction or design snag. The instructor ALWAYS throws out that one tidbit or helpful hint that prompts me to declare, “Now THAT was worth the price of admission!”

The display of the teacher’s class samples offer a wealth of fabric and design input and often there is lots of fabric swapping around the room as we scrounge in each other’s “stashes” to find just the right green or the fabric that really looks like a stone wall. Working at the design wall allows neighboring quilters to play around with each other’s blocks and the final design layout is often a wonderful blend of ideas from around the room.

I love seeing the texture and tones of the fabrics chosen by class participants and am always amazed at how colors I’ve never worked with seem to flow so easily for other quiltmakers. I’ve often come home from a class just itching to pull out those purples and lime greens and see if I can make magic with some brights when I formerly preferred muted plaids. Every student has their own gadgets and we are always sharing what we love about this or that tool, or carrying container, or how we organize our fabrics at home and to come to classes.

Quilt classes are about sharing. Sharing our passion for quiltmaking. Sharing all we’ve learned through the years. The most important sharing is from the heart, for as quilters we thrive on wrapping others in the loving work of our hands and I’ve never met more caring people than quilters. We catch up, sometimes only once a year, with friends we’ve made and “gab” about what the kids are doing, the challenges of caring for aging parents, our current personal challenges, community service projects we’ve adopted. We laugh, we work hard, we learn, always with warm drinks and soothing munchies. Quilt classes are some of the best times of my life …… filled with connection with kindred spirits!
