We are
Carol & Dan Perkins and we opened the doors to Threads Galore Quilt
Shop in May of 1996 with about 50 bolts of fabric and a handful of books,
patterns and notions. We now carry about 1000 bolts of quality 100%
quilting fabric, including Moda, Thimbleberries, Benartex, Riverwoods,
P&B and others. We also have a large selection of books,
patterns and notions and lots of samples to inspire your creativity.
A portion of our shop displays many quilted items for sale ranging in size
from small wall hangings to full-sized quilts. Whether our own
design or a design by others, all items are sold with
permission.
The shop adjoins our circa
1898 home in the town of Rangeley, a small four season community in the
western mountains of Maine. Six major lakes, hundreds of smaller
lakes and ponds and majestic mountains, surround us. For more
details about the Rangeley Lakes Region, please visit our local Chamber of
Commerce site at
www.rangeleymaine.com.
Carol
and Dan both come from family backgrounds of sewing and crafting.
Carol began sewing as a teenager with the help of her grandmother, a
professional seamstress. She made her first quilt over 20 years ago
and was immediately hooked! With Dan’s help, she turned her passion
for quilting into the opening of Threads Galore Quilt Shop. Dan, not
to be left out, began quilting over 10 years ago and enjoys designing his
own quilts. His real job as a plumbing contractor keeps him pretty
busy but he still manages to design and piece several quilts a year.
Carol usually does the quilting for him on her Gammill Classic quilting
machine.
New to Threads Galore Quilt Shop in 2002 is the addition
of the house next door. Completely renovated by Dan & Carol, this
circa 1891 lovingly restored house is now the home of Quilt Inn Rangeley
Retreat Center, a gathering place for quilters to share their love
quilting.
If you are lucky enough to visit us in the summer
months, make sure that you take the time to smell the flowers. Dan
is an avid gardener and has the back yard filled with flowerbeds, walking
paths, garden art and benches - a spectacular backdrop for “Quilts in the
Garden”, an event held every other year in August. A front and back porch
with rocking chairs is also available for the non-quilters to sit and
relax.
